Our Acting for the Camera program develops teamwork, confidence and social skills while at the same time preparing students for acting in film, tv and commercials. This training includes learning how to slate, character development, how to react and so much more.
Students will learn a monologue from a popular movie or TV show and learn how to bring their character to life in a believable and engaging way. They will learn current industry skills like slating, camera acting and audition preparation. Monologues will be performed at our Christmas concert.
Students will learn about their own emotions and how they can use specific feelings to create specific characters in scenes. At the end of Term 2, students present self-made mood boards that illustrate this learning.
Students will learn about the history and theory of acting, starting with ancient Greece and then moving through other classic forms such as Shakespeare and Commedia Dell'arte. Students will work together to write their own show that will be performed in our end-of-year student show in June.
This program is led by award-winning Canadian actor Alysa King, who has enjoyed success across film, tv and theatre. An active professional, she brings a wealth of practical industry experience to CBY Music.
In addition to leading our group sessions, Alysa also offers weekly private acting lessons for 30 minutes.
Acting for the Camera group sessions are term-long and require a term-long commitment. We have three terms at CBY Music that are as follows:
Term 1: September to December
Term 2: January to March Break
Term 3: March to June
Tuition fees are invoiced at the start of the term at a rate of $22 per week.
Private acting lessons with Alysa operate on a rolling weekly basis. We recommend at least one term in a group session before booking private lessons.
